Relations among Fear of Falling, Anxiety and Instrumental Activities of Daily Living Above 65 Years Old Age

Abstract

|
Objective : The purpose of this study is to analyze the correlation between fear of falling, anxiety and instrumental activities of daily living(IADL) in elderly people above 65 years of age, and to improve their health and quality of life by providing baseline data for occupational therapy intervention.
Methods : This investigation was performed on 169 elderly people above 65 years of age who visited to senior welfare centers in local community. In order to collect the data, we used SAFE, K-BAI, K-IADL.
Results : In this study, There were statistically significant correlations between fear of falling and anxiety(r=.715, p=.000), fear of falling and IADL(r=.556, p=.000), anxiety and IADL(r=.446, p=.000).
Conclusion : The results of this study suggest that education and intervention programs in Occupational Therapy considered fear of falling and anxiety should be developed to improve quality of life for community-dwelling elderly.
